About This Cups to Grams Converter

This is the tool I wish existed when I first started taking baking seriously. The hard truth about "cups to grams" is that it is not a fixed conversion — a cup of flour weighs around 120 g, a cup of sugar weighs 200 g, and a cup of honey weighs a whopping 340 g. The cup is a volume measure; grams measure mass. The bridge between them is density.

Generic converters that say "1 cup = 236.6 g" are technically converting cups to milliliters of water — which is completely useless for baking solids. This tool selects the ingredient first and then applies its real-world measured density.

Our ingredient values are based on the "spoon and level" method — not scooped, not packed — since that is what the majority of recipe authors intend. For ingredients that pack unpredictably (like brown sugar), we note the packing assumption so you can adjust confidently.

  • Brown sugar is usually packed; our value reflects this. If your recipe says "loosely packed", reduce by ~10%.
